💖 Faith Over Feelings: Trusting God on the Hard Days
Hey sweet friend, ever had one of those days where your emotions feel louder than life?
“The heart is deceitful above all things…” —Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT)
“But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” —2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NLT)
Hey sweet friend,
Ever had one of those days where your emotions feel louder than life?
You’re overwhelmed, anxious, maybe even discouraged—and suddenly, it feels like everything is falling apart. Even though you know the truth of God’s Word, your feelings seem stronger in the moment.
We all have those days.
And that’s okay. God doesn’t shame you for feeling things deeply. He created your heart, your emotions, and even your tear ducts. But while feelings are real, they aren’t always reliable.
So today, let’s talk about what it looks like to choose faith over feelings—especially on the hard days.
💡 Feelings Are Real, But They’re Not Always Right
Let’s clear this up: your emotions matter. God cares when your heart is heavy. Psalm 56:8 (NLT) says,
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.”
But while your feelings are valid, they don’t always tell the truth.
Your anxiety might say, “This will never work out.”
But God says, “I have a plan for you.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Your loneliness might say, “You’re forgotten.”
But God says, “I will never leave you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
See the difference?
Our emotions are like weather—they change fast. But God’s Word is our umbrella, our anchor, and our safe place, no matter what storm is happening inside us.
📖 Jesus Felt Deeply, Too
Even Jesus had days full of emotion. He wept (John 11:35). He got angry at injustice. He felt deep sorrow in the Garden of Gethsemane.
But here’s the key: He didn’t let emotions lead Him—He always returned to the Father.
When our feelings scream louder than our faith, we can do the same.
🧘🏽♀️ What Choosing Faith Looks Like
Pause before reacting. Take a breath. Step back. Invite God in before the spiral begins.
Speak God’s Word out loud. There’s power in declaring truth when lies are swirling in your mind.
Write it down. Journaling helps separate what you feel from what is true.
Surround yourself with truth-tellers. Text a friend who reminds you of God’s promises when you forget.
Worship anyway. Even when you don’t feel like it. Especially when you don’t.
🙏 Prayer
Lord,
Some days, my feelings feel like a tidal wave. Help me not to ignore them, but also not to be led by them. Teach me to anchor myself in Your truth when I feel overwhelmed, anxious, or discouraged. Remind me that You’re near, even when my emotions try to say otherwise. Thank You for being my steady rock on shaky days. I choose to trust You over my feelings today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
✍️ Reflection Questions
What feelings have been the loudest in your heart lately?
Are there any lies you’ve been believing because of those emotions?
What truth from God’s Word can you hold on to today?
How can you invite God into your emotional process this week?
Who can you reach out to when your emotions feel overwhelming?
💬 Final Thoughts
Beautiful girl, choosing faith over feelings doesn’t mean pretending to be okay when you’re not. It means knowing you can feel deeply and still stand firmly on God’s truth.
Even when your emotions are wild, God is your constant. Even when your heart feels unsure, His promises are sure. Even when it’s hard to trust, He is still trustworthy.
So take a breath.
Cry if you need to.
Then lift your eyes, and remember:
You are not ruled by your feelings.
You are led by a faithful God. 💗
